BBC Proms ‘Sounds of The North’ Soundscape
This soundscape was commissioned by the BBC while Madeleine was a member of its Open Music scheme (2023-2024).
It was played through headphones in the lobby area of The Glasshouse International Centre for Music in Gateshead.
‘After living in Manchester for 10 years, Madeleine Jones aimed to capture different sounds of the North of England through this bustling soundscape. Seeing cultural and economic similarities between the North and her native of South Wales, she hopes to illustrate the distinguishing features of regional experiences. Listen to her journey through Blackpool, Liverpool, Manchester, York, Newcastle, and Gateshead whilst hearing from friends and acquaintances about what the North means to them.’
